Hello all. I am a recent graduate working as a circulating RN in Cardiothoracic Surgery. I have been working in the OR (counting my externship) in a circulating RN role for 1 1/2 years, been in CV Surgery since just prior to graduation-about 8 months. Does anyone know if some agencies count intern/extern and/or GN experience toward the 1-2 years or is it calculated from when you became licensed?

I have always wanted to travel, especially now that I have been in the OR for some time. I really want to travel and be exposed to procedures not performed in my current geographical location. I also would like to just experience and explore some other ORs to see what all is out there. I have a six year old daughter in 1st grade. Anyone willing to share their experiences with traveling regarding family? Did they stay or travel with? What about the kids' schooling--homeschool or transfer? Pets? Resources for spouse to secure work prior to moving? Do you know anyone who has traveled with family? Any information would be helpful. I have been contemplating how to travel with a family since before graduation, but just have come up with about all I can on my own...I am really wanting some input from those who have been there.

Regarding housing...if you elect to have your own housing with a stipend, how much are the stipends? I'm sure the monetary value varies by location, but is it a decent stipend? Is it enough to have a nice place or just to get by? How do you find your own housing prior to assignment? Is there a good site for travelers or just searching through multiple realty sites?

Any agencies strongly recommended/strongly NOT recommended? Tips in general?

Any input will be appreciated!! Thanks!!
